The project of mine I called NoSynology, because tuning that proprietary piece of... hardware was a burden and far, far from usable. Castrated containers, living inside stupid GUI window is so sad. I would never ever buy that type of convenient chains. Beside that they [for now] quit Russian support, leaving all of their customers off shore. So long, sin-o-lodge. Finally broke free from endless subscription services and proprietary platforms. Set up my own infrastructure with RAID storage directly in my PC, self-hosted services, and complete control over my data, and even Dropbox with their AI-learnin-poop can suck it now. End of rant.

What Changed

  • Email: My own email system using Posteo
  • Files: Miniserver + Cloudflare Tunnel instead of Dropbox: unlimited storage for 10 credits a year.
  • Tasks: TaskWarrior with synchronization, because why not?
  • Calendars: CalDAV server Radicale, now I've detached so much from networks that it's hard to find time for jokes.
  • Storage: Mirror mapping with ZFS (2x20TB), yes, Dropboxy, please return my last payment so I can cover the whole year.

Why This Matters

There are no more constraints from the provider. No more monthly payments for basic functions. Total control over my digital life, and I feel liberated - I'm not dispersed and dissolved into corporations that use convenience as a marketing ploy to smooth out the modern lack of IT basics. I really feel free. Setting up took time, but freedom is worth it. Everything works on Arch Linux with Docker containers. And interesting twist: Claude Code helped with the setup because text-based configurations work just fine.
